The school day program begins at 8:30 AM. and ends at 2:30 PM and is available 3 days a week or 5 days a week.  All the children are served a morning snack daily and then the school day children eat lunch and have a nap at school.  We offer age appropriate classes in Spanish, Art classes, Library,  fitness, and music to our preschool children.  Each of these classes is taught by a specialist who joins the regular classroom teacher.

These classes provide children with exposure to enrichment areas not normally offered to preschoolers, but which research has shown to be extremely beneficial to overall brain development at just this age. For example: The Project Approach which refers to a set of teaching strategies that enable our teachers to guide children through in-depth studies of real world topics. The Project Approach is not unstructured. There is a complex but flexible framework with features that characterize the teaching-learning interaction. When teachers implement the Project Approach successfully, children can be highly motivated, feel actively involved in their own learning, and produce work of a high quality. We feel research is clear on the benefits of these activities for young people.

Our preschool program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  It is a valued part of our academic program, which continues through eighth grade.  The Country Day School preschool programs prepare children for our own primary school, public schools, and other private schools here and in other parts of the country and the world.

Athens State College and UAB both use the Country Day Preschool as a lab school for graduate and undergraduate students studying early childhood education.
